Understanding fund lifecycle to maximize your fundraising odds
VC funds have legal obligations to deploy capital within their investment period, typically 3–5 years after closing. Funds in the first half of their deployment window are under active pressure to invest, making them more responsive to quality deal flow.
Most funds make 20–40 investments per fund. Early in the deployment cycle, GPs have not yet committed their full allocation, meaning there are open portfolio slots. Later in the cycle, the fund may be "reserved" for follow-ons only — making early targeting critical.
Unlike VC directories that rely on self-reported data, our deployment signals come directly from SEC Form D mandatory disclosures. Every fund here has filed paperwork confirming active fundraising or investment activity — an objective, tamper-proof activity signal.

We use SEC EDGAR Form D filings as the primary signal. Form D must be filed whenever a fund raises capital or makes an investment. Funds with filings within the last 12 months are classified as actively deploying. We also cross-reference LinkedIn presence and website activity to filter out inactive entities.
This page refreshes every 24 hours. Our underlying database ingests new SEC Form D filings nightly via the EDGAR full-text search API, so recent fund activity is captured within 24–48 hours of public disclosure.
The highest-converting approach is a warm introduction from a portfolio founder or mutual connection. Cold outreach converts at roughly 1–3%, while warm intros convert at 10–30%. Use our warm intro path tool to identify who in your network is connected to your target funds.
Many are, especially smaller and emerging funds that don't receive the same volume as Tier 1 VCs. Focus your cold outreach on funds that have invested in companies similar to yours at a similar stage. A concise, personalized email referencing their portfolio (3–4 sentences max) outperforms generic pitch decks.
Yes — use the industry and stage filter links on this page to see funds focused on your specific sector (AI, fintech, biotech, etc.) or stage (pre-seed, seed, Series A, etc.). Each filtered page shows check sizes and recency data for funds in that category.
